The Wall, Alte Jacobstrasse (West Berlin 1988)
Walls all over the world have one reason in common: They separate one from another. Few last longer than their intended meaning.
The symbol of the Cold War, “The Berlin Wall”, was eventually brought down by the brave citizens of East Germany after 28 years, 2 months and 28 days on 9 November 1989. Most pieces were shipped all over the world and the few remaining stretches still standing serve today as a major tourist attraction.
Lewis Baltz wrote that “London, Paris and Rome have a history, but Berlin has a past”.
