Photography, for me has never been a passive process, not a technical endeavour, nor the pursuit of what constitutes a great photograph in the sense of composition, content or style, it has always been about engagement.
Engaging with the world around me, what and whom I photograph in hindsight help me discover more about who I am or rather who I was.
I still think I have found the perfect ‘excuse’ walk up to anyone and start a conversation, and if I'm lucky I would walk away with a photograph and a vignette of a different life. Its this engaging that’s been the driving force behind my work, together with the belief that we can discern the big picture by looking at any small part of it, that 'small' part being the human in humanity.
As I engage myself in the act of photographing, I engage others and hope to give them a space, where they are content to be who they choose to be in that very moment.
It does help to still have held on to a healthy amount of curiosity and a love of people.
