He looks more vulnerable since I last saw him. The lines in his weathered face had deepened even more. The declining fish stock plays hard on his mind. “Us traditional fishermen can’t keep up with the high tech boats”. The ever-growing seal population is also to blame.
Only few of the line fishing boats still go out to sea nowadays. Without them the harbour would look abandoned and tourists, who flock to the restaurants and take a stroll along the pier, might go elsewhere. “But summer is coming soon”, he says, “and I will give it one more shot. Fishing is not for sissies”.
