About Karin
Karin is a Cape Town based photographer with a passion to take photographs that change people’s perspectives and open their eyes. She has spent the past 20 years traveling to forgotten, and hard to reach places. Karin works consistently with organisations such as UNICEF, WWF, Comic Relief, CARE, mothers2mothers, and UN Women in the hope that the photos and stories will ultimately help change perspectives and bring about change. She is particularly passionate about shedding light on the plight of women across the globe.

In partnership with her husband Rob, they launched Slingshot Media in 2007, which is a nimble, family run production company with a trusted network of experienced practitioners and storytellers, across the various mediums of photography, film and motion graphics.
Karin also published the book Miles Ahead, which was both locally and internationally distributed, and told the photographic journey of the Barclays/UNICEF community development projects through Africa and Europe. She was one of the main photographing contributors to “The Guts and the Glory” and won a photographic Merit Award in the SAB Environmental Media Awards. Karin was also keynote speaker at the annual Wild Shots event in Cape Town and the "1000 Women" Fundraiser. She has been published in numerous publications including the Guardian, Wild, and Getaway. In 2009, she set up Photography for Change - a platform that uses photography to help children in challenging circumstances to realise once again who they are and what they are capable of. “Giving a child a camera, is like giving an explorer a compass, who knows what lands they will discover!”
