Anhalter Bahnhof (West Berlin 1988)
In the 19th century railway stations were the gateway to the world. When the extension of this railway terminus was completed and inaugurated in 1880 by the German Kaiser Wilhelm I it was the largest of its kind in the world.
Eventually destroyed by a bombing campaign of the allied forces during WWII, the remaining ruins were demolished in 1960 - 15 years after the war ended. A part of the centre portion of the façade was left standing, reminding us of its more glorious days.
